Fun in the Summer Sun

by Jackie Foskett, CH
Summer is a time when we naturally gravitate toward
outdoor activities and nurturing our bodies with fresh,
healthy foods. This summer, make the most of a
season that supports your well-being.
De-Stress with Summer Fun
Start by revisiting the article "10 Ways to Attract Ease
and Serenity" from my April newsletter. Tip #4 is to
de-stress, and what better antidote to stress than
spending time in the great outdoors. Take a walk, sit
on the patio with family and friends or simply devote a
few moments to reveling in the season's agreeable
weather.
Summer calls for more energetic activities, too: hiking,
swimming, tennis, badminton jogging, biking
and gardening. When moving your body in such
thoroughly enjoyable ways, you won't even think of it
as exercise. Instead, feel-good hormones and the fun
of being physically engaged flood you with a sense of
well being.
All of these activities take us away from the
everyday "busy-ness" that leaves us tired, stressed
and overwhelmed. As you spend time outside, focus
on the present moment. Notice how you feel. More at
ease? More serene? More connected? Take a deep
breath, release and enjoy!
Nurture Your Body
Tip #10 from my April newsletter is a call to nurture
your body. You can follow this advice by indulging in
the many healthy foods that are so readily available in
summer. Fresh berries, peaches, nectarines,
tomatoes, summer squashes, as well as fresh fish
make eating for your health and well-being that much
easier.
This is the season of salads! Be creative and grill
those veggies with some olive oil and balsamic
vinegar, then toss them with other salad fixings for a
light, delicious dish that pleases your taste buds. Try
some salsa instead of salad dressing and you will be
in for quite a treat.
Nurture your body even more by working toward
fitness goals. Use the extra morning or evening light
to take an extra long walk to tone your muscles, burn
calories and relax all at the same time!
As you de-stress and nurture your body this summer
season, don't forget to acknowledge day by day that
you are creating more ease and serenity in your life.
Forget about focusing on what is hard. Pay attention
instead to your successes and you will be sure to
reap more of the same.
This season of ease is right outside your door--use it
to create the life you desire!
